Geology of Yellowstone National Park ** The Quaternary and Pliocene Yellowstone Plateau Volcanic Field of Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana ** Embracing large, diverse, and complex geologic features, Yellowstone National Park is in an area that is critical to the interpretation of many significant regional geologic problems. To provide basic data bearing on these problems, in 1965 the U. S. Geological Survey initiated a broad program of comprehensive geologic and geophysical investigations within the park. This professional paper is one in a series of technical geologic reports resulting from these investigations.
